The tom thumb bit is characterized by it's short loose cheeks and broken mouthpiece. It is generally used as a transition bit from the ring snaffle to the fixed shank. The cheeks are straight up, short and light in weight reducing leverage and signal. The snaffle mouthpiece is straight to apply even pressure across the tongue and bars. Thicker bar stock is used in the mouth to reduce the severity of the bit for younger ponies. Cheeks: 6" stainless steel Mouthpiece: stainless steel snaffle. 4-1/2" or 4 3/4".
